American Jewish Historical Society- New England

Hello! We are associated with the American Jewish Historical Society in New York. Based in Boston, we work towards preserving the historical record of the Jewish community of Greater Boston and New England. Please visit our website for more information: http://ajhsboston.org

Also found in Bernard Gorfinkle’s scrapbook is this interesting photo and caption. According to our in depth research on wikipedia the daughter of Napoleon’s only acknowledged illegitimate son, said she had a son who fought in WWI and who had a striking resemblance to the man himself. What say you, tumblr, see any family resemblance?

Bernard Gorfinkle’s WWI scrapbook documenting his journey from Officer’s training in Plattsburg N.Y., his trip across the Atlantic, to the front in France.

Ok, here’s some real #retro #obsoletemedia for you: 8” #floppydisks - thankfully they came with an inventory, so at least we know what we’re unable to read #digitaldarkage

In honor of Ada Lovelace’s birthday, take a look at how far our computer technology has come!

Happy Sukkot! Here are ladies from the Sisterhood of Kehillath Israel building their sukkah.

Are there dates or names attached to this? One of these women looks like my great grandmother.

Yes! Here is the page from the Kehillath Israel Yearbook for 1959-1960 that this photo was used in, it’s from our collection for Kehillath Israel Synagogue in Brookline, Mass.

That’s the shul she went to! KI in Brookline! (And the shul a lot of my family still goes to.)
Unfortunately, the image is broken. Can you try re-uploading it?

Let’s try this again

And if the link still isn’t working contact us directly at reference@ajhsboston.org and we’d be more than happy to email the scan to you!
