John F. Kennedy was a great friend to the Boston Jewish community, in particular to Dewey D. Stone, a Brockton businessman. As a young man running for the Senate in 1952, Kennedy had to overcome the shadow of his father’s Nazi sympathies. Stone believed in Jack Kennedy and was pivotal in introducing him to Jewish voters. The two remained close friends until Kennedy’s assassination in 1963. As a senator, he worked closely with the Jewish community, in particular with the Jewish Community Relations Council, on issues related to Israel and immigration. Here, a photograph of Dewey Stone with JFK, October 8, 1952. From the Dewey Stone papers.
